Title:            Dental Hygienist 
Salary:         $87,137 - $ 106,012 per year (pay range explained below)             
Contract:     9-month term
Hours:         37.5 hours per week (core hours 9am-3pm, Monday-Friday)
Location:    Vanderhoof, BC to Fort St. James, BC
Bargaining Unit: PSAC Local 22000 (Public Service Alliance of Canada) 

About the role
The Dental Hygienist role is an exciting opportunity to deliver oral health services to rural and remote First Nations communities in beautiful parts of Northern BC, within the scope of practice of a Dental Hygienist. In this role, you will work within a very passionate and dedicated team of oral health professionals that work together to reduce barriers to accessing timely oral health care for BC First Nations. This role works under the general and professional direction and supervision of the Manager, Oral Health Program, and delivers comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral healthcare treatment, oral health education, and public health promotion programs to First Nations communities. Daily travel to communities is required in this role, as well as staying overnight in communities once every 4-6 weeks for a full week.

About you
To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Completion  of an accredited dental hygiene program 
  • 3-5 years of experience working as a Dental Hygienist or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Current registration with the BCCOHP and certified in delivering local anesthetic; practicing in full scope of dental hygiene
  • Current CPR Basic Life Support, including AED Define the level of qualification required for this position.
  • Possesses a valid unrestricted driving license for automobiles (Class 5)
  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, an understanding of First Nations cultural principles and protocols in work situations; of dental service delivery mechanisms in BC; of the methods and techniques of handling the shipment, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials of a chemical and biological nature; and of clinical office and administrative procedures, and fixed and portable dental equipment operation, maintenance and minor repair.
