Hours:             37.5 hours per week (8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday)
Location:         Park Royal, West Vancouver, BC


About the role
The Director of Regional Health Emergency Management plays a pivotal role in providing collaborative leadership for the development, implementation, and ongoing management of regional responses to health emergencies. This includes addressing environmental and natural disasters as well as public health emergencies such as communicable disease outbreaks and the toxic drug crisis. The position operates within the FNHA framework for public health response, fostering strong collaborative partnerships with regional health and emergency agencies, central services, other regional teams, First Nations communities, and other partners.

Summary of principal duties and responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with First Nations leaders, Health Directors, and government partners.
  • Collaborate on a detailed regional work plan for health emergency management response.
  • Provide strategic consultation and leadership in creating standardized emergency management policies and procedures.
  • Offer advice and collaboration for the protection of health services within First Nations during emergencies.
  • Guide First Nations in aligning health needs with emergency plans and structures.
  • Partner with RHAs and agencies to support mental health resources during and after crises.
  • Represent FNHA as an expert in process development for all hazards events.
  • Lead and oversee regional crisis/emergency preparedness and response, including wildfire, floods, and environmental disasters.
  • Ensure continuous use and implementation of the online emergency request register system.
  • Provide feedback on training programs for FNHA staff's responsibilities in crisis response.
  • Build and maintain culturally relevant relationships with emergency management agencies and First Nation communities.
  • Develop and manage budgets for the functional area, ensuring expenditures stay within limits.

About you
To be successful in this role you will have:

Education
•    A University Degree with specialization in Public Health, Health Sciences or other relevant health field or an acceptable combination of education, training and professional experience

Experience
•    Recent, relevant and significant experience in crisis response/emergency management and/or responding to health related emergencies (usually acquired over a period of 7-10 years)
•    Recent, relevant and significant experience working within inter-governmental relationships and responsibilities, particularly as relevant to crisis response/emergency planning
•    Experience, training or qualifications in health emergency management or emergency management 
•    Experience in providing advice and recommendations to senior management on health crisis and emergency preparedness and response issues
•    Experience working with First Nations communities and/or organizations
•    Physical ability to perform the duties of the position
